Pot Luck

Yesterday eve, myself and room mates were invited to a neighborhood pot luck. The affair was quite enjoyable and afforded us the opportunity to meet our neighbors and sample their varied foodstuffs. There was quite a bit of really excellent food, including a mild Caribbean-style curried chicken, half-smokes, various salads, and some succulent fried chicken wings. Desert was also excellent, featuring brownies, cupcakes, and some liquor-soaked tiramisu.

To this smorgasbord, my house added a delightful pasta salad of heirloom tomato, mozzarella, and fresh basil. The tomato was really given the opportunity to shine in what I fear will likely be its summer swan song. A massive pink-yellow tomato acted more like its colors than its species--its tender flesh and sweet juice evoking a summer peach at the height of ripeness. All in all, I believe there were green, yellow, red, purple, and the afformentioned peach-tomato in the mix.

Because we were a bit late to the party, our dish was eaten only sparingly despite being awesome. As such, much leftovers were to be had. Ain't life grand?
